Water temperatures drop in Gulf......
Cooling of waters in the Gulf of Mexico is killing fish and chilling bathers on the beaches of the Florida Panhandle.
The water temperature plunged suddenly from the upper 80s last week to
the low 70s.
Fish are smothering because of low levels of dissolved oxygen.
Scientists are puzzled. The best scientific guess concerns the DeSoto
Canyon
(about 30 miles off Florida Panhandle beaches).
