Theft - Don't Be a Target on Vacation!

Don't be a Taget for thieves, while on your vacation. When you go on vacation you usually carry cameras, sports equipment, and sometimes plenty of cash, plus other valuables. Your hotel room is a prime target for a thief. Here are some of the things to be aware of:

  • Don't leave valuables unattended in your room. Store them in the hotel's safe.
  • Don't display room keys in public or leave them on the table by the pool or a restaurant.
  • If your key disappears, ask for a new room.
  • Never leave your door unlocked. Also, if there is a connecting door, test it.
  • When registering, ask the hotel clerk to write down your room number on a piece of paper, unless it's on your key.
(If the clerk does announce it, ask for another room.)
  • Use your safety latch if there is one. Whatever you can do, will be in your favor.
  • When you go out put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the knob. Leave the TV on, or a light in the room.
  • If you remember locking the door, and it is wide open when you return, get out of the room quickly and notify security.
A thief may still be in the room.
